We believe a congratulations is in order: Variety has unveiled its annual Youth Impact report and we are thrilled to report that Nina Dobrev has been named a Variety Power of Youth Honoree for 2013! The Vampire Diaries actress joins fellow Hollywood stars Tyler Posey, Quvenzhané Wallis, Abigail Breslin and Jake T. Austin in sharing this exciting accolade.
So why was Nina chosen? Because she’s not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside as well! Despite a hectic filming schedule, she dedicates a lot of time and energy to helping kids. In fact, Nina has been working with the Canadian organization Free the Children since 2007! “I love their whole concept of kids helping kids,” she says. “It empowered me and opened up my eyes to the fact that you can affect people all over the world. The program really encourages young people to travel to different countries and actually physically do something and meet the kids, as opposed to just donating money and hoping it gets to the source. That’s what I found so appealing.”
Variety publisher Michelle Sobrino had nothing but incredible things to say about Nina and the other award recipients. “Celebrating Hollywood’s most influential youth alongside the very people whose lives they’ve impacted is what makes this event so special,” she explains. “These honorees, in partnership with their individual charities, are igniting change and leading their peers, fans and communities by example. Power of Youth shines a spotlight on these incredible leaders, and hopes to inspire future young entertainers to continue in their footsteps.”
Many kudos go out to Nina, Jake, Tyler, Abigail, and Quvenzhané on their relentless efforts to inspire positive change around the world! Their philanthropic work and charitable achievements will be celebrated at the seventh annual Power of Youth event on July 27 at Universal Studios, where they will have the amazing opportunity to catch up with the very same people whose lives they’ve bettered!
