10. Robin van Persie | Manchester United - £39.5m
The Dutchman has continued has impressive form, which saw him earn a move to United last summer. As there is a three-way tie for 8th on £39.5m, but as Van Persie is the eldest he lies in 10th. Do not be surprised if his value goes up after his stunning hat-trick against Aston Villa last night, however.
9. Edinson Cavani | SSC Napoli - £39.5m
The first of five South Americans on this list, Cavani has been linked with moves to Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid. With a release clause believed to be of £53m, expect to move for more than his £39.5 million value.
8. Sergio Aguero, Manchester City - £39.5m
The Argentine has a taste for dramatic goals including his winner against rivals United in the Manchester derby, and his Premier League winner against QPR last year. His fee of around £38m in 2011 looks to represent good value.
7. Neymar | Santos FC - £44m
Brazil’s latest superstar, Neymar is the highest Samba ranked player and may well bear the weight of a nation’s expectations on his young shoulders at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
6. Cesc Fabregas | FC Barcelona - £48.5m
Fabregas’ £35m return to Barcelona raised a few eyebrows in terms of the fee, but since then as his estimated value has risen by over £10m, as he has struck nine times in the league this season along with 10 assists.
5. Radamel Falcao | Atletico de Madrid - £53m
The Colombian superstar has scored 87 goals in 112 league games since his first move to Europe, and his value has more than doubled since his move to Atletico Madrid from FC Porto in 2011.
4. Wayne Rooney | Manchester United - £57m
The most expensive ever teenager, Rooney has been a key member of England and United’s plans for nearly a decade and it is hard to believe he is still only 27.
3. Andres Iniesta | FC Barcelona - £61.5m
The third and final Spaniard, and the second of three Barcelona players, Iniesta is arguably the best creative midfielder in all of Europe. His superb technical ability and mesmerising dribbling is a joy to watch.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo | Real Madrid - £88m
His enormous fee now seems to be justified as the Portuguese captain has scored consistently at over a goal a game with 141 league goals in 130 games. However, like so many times before he finishes in second to long rival Leo Messi.
1. Lionel Messi | FC Barcelona - £105m
There remain few new superlatives to describe how good the Argentine magician really is. Ballon d’Or winner an unprecedented four times in a row, Messi is arguably the best player of all time, and is currently the most valuable.
